BatmanBatman. He’s awesome, of course. And he’s had some awesome stories. Here, we talk about our favorites!

The World’s Greatest Super-Heroes (includes Batman War on Crime)
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
Batman: Year One
Batman: Hush
Batman: The Killing Joke, Deluxe Edition
Gotham Central, Book 1: In the Line of Duty

Plus we get some listener feedback with their favorite Batman stories.

We also continue our explorations of the crossover events we’re reading. Daniel searches for the High Evolutionary in Evolutionary War! Ben can’t pronounce Shaman in Secret Wars II! Matt feels good about himself because Crisis on Infinite Earths is pretty darn good compared to the other two guys!

If you have an infinite number of worlds, and you destroy two… how many worlds do you have left?
The single episodes all make me want to start reading comics, but these crossover/group episodes aren’t really selling me on any of the series you guys are talking about. The Beyonder, in particular, just sounds…well, moronic.
My favorite Batman story was the one where Superman stops the Batmobile with his big toe, and then uppercuts the Dark Knight into the Cartwheel Galaxy. (real place) It’d take an infinite number of multiverses for Batman to beat Superman.
I recently watched some Batman animated movie where Two Face gets a new face, and Batman shoots up a bunch of gang-members, then beats up a guy with a bear-trap for a mouth… but then I went for a snack and came back to see some weird neo-Nazi chick with swastika pasties on…so, I found something better to do.

Had to further comment on the Beyonder. For a guy who wants to know what desire is, he sure WANTS an awful lot, doesn’t he?

        Exactly!

I sort of look at, well, in the case of Secret Wars II, I’m reading it so you don’t have to. 🙂

So far, it hasn’t descended into complete waste of time, because I’m enjoying talking about it…so far.

Well, I, for one, am enjoying your (pl.) attempts to word your reviews indiplomatic terms. (of course I am the one who put Matt’s other partner Ben DB through ‘Warehouse 13’ so it appears I enjoy the suffering of others…you know those tv blooper shows where people have accidents and go cartwheeling off their bicycle, or fall off a roof or something like that? …pure comedy gold)

Enjoyed your discussion, guys. I own “The World’s Greatest Superheroes,” and it is indeed a beautiful volume. I’ve pruned my shelf of superhero hardbacks a few times now, but that one always makes the cut and stays.

My favorite Batman story is likely “The Challenge of the Man-Bat” from Detective Comics 400 back in June 1970. Not so much for the issue itself — although the Neal Adams art is to die for — but because the strength of the Man-Bat concept, and the fact that I have big nostalgia for the Power Records adaptation, where I first met the character, and which was probably my first exposure to Batman beyond afternoon reruns of the Adam West series. I do wish they’d put Kirk Langstrom in a Batman movie. Think of the symmetry of the title alone — “Batman: Man-Bat”!
